Title
Early Medieval Brooch
Description
English: An incomplete, copper alloy, Early Medieval, Saucer Brooch, AD.450-550. The object comprises most of the saucer disc of the brooch, however, there is damage around the rim and a substantial part of one side missing. The pin is also absent. The front of the brooch is decorated with a central boss, radiating from which are 5 curved points that create 5 D shaped spaces between. The D shapes are decorated with a pelletted border, and two incised lines. Surrounding the whole design is first a pellet border and then a solid linear border. The walls of the saucer are undecorated. The back of the brooch retains two worn projections aligned to form the catchplate and hinge for the pin.
