Title |
Early Medieval Brooch |
||
Description |
English: Incomplete Middle Saxon copper alloy ansate brooch, with missing catchplate and single transverse pin lug partly obscured by the remains of the iron pin loop. A strong median arris along the full length is interrupted by five transverse ribs, one at both terminals, in the centre of the bow and one at the junctions of both arms and the bow. The site of the catchplate is smooth and covered by a pad of silvery solder. The original catchplate was probably integral and was replaced by a soldered and later lost substitute. Thörle 2001 Gruppe X C. Length 36mm. Width 5mm. 9th century. |
