Title
Early Medieval Bell from Muckton
Description
English: Cast copper alloy four-sided pyramidal bell with a square base. The sides appear slightly distorted and originally either straight or slightly convex. At the apex is the broken stub of a suspension loop. Four rounded knops or feet are set at the outer corners at the base of the bell. Ferrous corrosion within the bell indicates the loss of an iron clapper. Height: 39.3mm, Width: 32mm, Thickness: circa 2mm, Weight: 24.73g.

This type of bell is Roman, perhaps confined to the first century AD. See Clarke (1970-71) for parallels.
