Title
Early Medieval Ansate brooch
Description
English: An incomplete cast copper-alloy Middle Saxon ansate brooch. It is complete except for the pin which is missing due to old breaks. The terminals are semi-circular and flat with three pellet in circles on each edge and a forth in the centre. The bow is rectangular and d-shaped in section. It is not possible to decipher the decoration due to corrosion. There is an integrally cast circular loop on the reverse of one terminal and a bent projection on the other which is broken. Both are circular in section. These would form the pin and catch of the brooch. It measures 41.94mm in length, 6.94mm in width across the bow, 14.57mm in width across the terminal, 4.36mm in thickness and weighs 8.62g.
