Description |
English: Incomplete copper alloy Ansate brooch of the Middle Saxon to Late Saxon period, part of the bow and all of one terminal missing. The whole object was made up from five decorated square panels with small lobes at the corners, one panel on each arm and three on the bow. Slightly more than three are extant. On the arm a saltire is set within a frame and there are five notches in the end edge, and on the reverse there is a short (4mm) and low (5mm) catchplate. The bow consists of two panels of six and seven longitudinal grooves flanking a panel containing a cross patee. Extant length 33mm. Length (estimated) 50mm. Width 14mm. Thörle 2001, Gruppe XI B 2 (Typ Donk). Hübener 1972, Gruppe 10. 9th century. |
