Title |
Early Medieval Ansate Brooch |
||
Description |
English: Fragment of an unusual Early-Middle Saxon copper alloy Ansate brooch with shield-shaped terminal, sides with concave narrowing towards transverse break at what should be the springing of the bow, although there is no hint of the beginning of an arch. There is a transversely-set rectangular pin bar on the reverse, pin missing. Decoration consists of a chip-carved counter-relief curvilinear sub-S-shaped figure within a bordering line that continues along the bow. Width of terminal 10.5mm. Surviving length 18mm. 2mm thick. No parallel, perhaps related to Hübener 1972, Gruppe 1, Thörle 2001 Gruppe I A 2. c. 600-720. |
