Early Medieval Ansate Brooch |
||
Description |
English: A cast copper alloy ansate brooch of early-medieval date. The brooch measures 37.2mm by 11.2mm by 5.5mm and weighs 7.93g. At each end of the forward projecting central arm there is a circular terminal. Both are decorated with three uneven annulets, the outer two of which adjoin a linear which is parallel to the central arm. This pattern is set within a raised border. The central arm is decorated with two parallel longitudinal linears, apart from on the central circular boss, which is decorated with faint lines in the form of three sides of a square. On the back of one terminal are the two attachment plates for a hinged pin (missing). On the back of the other terminal there is a curving catchplate. There are traces of silvering or tinning in several areas. |
