Title
Early Medieval Anglo-Saxon Vessel (showing positions of sherds)
Description
English: Pottery sherd, probably from a vessel of Anglo-Saxon date. The sherd has a red-brown buff surface, while the body is grey with white crushed shell inclusions. The breaks are worn on all edges. The fragment does not appear to be decorated, although has a slight curve to its top half. This suggests the sherd is a body fragment of the vessel, originally positioned just below the rim (see drawing, sherd number 1). The sherd measures 44mm by 34mm at the widest points. Found with nine other sherds, four of which are believed to be from the same vessel; see records KENT-D4C866, KENT-D4D178, KENT-D4D682 and KENT-D4DBE5. The relation of these sherds to each other can be seen on the attached drawing.
