Title
Early Medieval - Coin - penny of Aethelred II
Description
English: This is an early medieval hammered silver penny of Aethelred II (The Unready - 978-1016). The coin is from the first hand series c.979-85. The obverse depicts a diademed bust right and the reverse, the hand of Providence issuing from the cloud with A (alpha) and W (omega) to either side. The moneyer is possibly Hereberht at Lewes (LÆV). The coin is in a relatively uncirculated condition with a corroded surface and weakly struck reverse.
