Early Medieval (Anglo-Saxon) ansate brooch.
Description
English: An incomplete copper-alloy Early Medieval (Anglo-Saxon) ansate brooch, dating to AD 800-1000. It consists of a central semi-oval cross-sectioned bow, which has two three-lobed ends. The ends are flat and decorated with three longitudinal grooves; where the bow meets the lobed ends there is a transverse ridge. The back face of the brooch has a remainder of the hooked catch plate on one end and an incomplete pierced double lug on the other end. The lugs house a fragment of the iron axis bar and possibly of the pin.
