Title
Early Iron Age pottery: Pottery sherds
Description
English: Eighteen (18) sherds of prehistoric pottery, probably early Iron Age in date (c. 800-401 BC). Most of the sherds are tempered with crushed flint of varying sizes (up to c. 6mm) with the occasional sherd also containing small rounded stones or quartz. All but one of the sherds are body sherds; the exception has a bend in the wall into what is probably a base but the sherd is too fragmentary to be certain. All but one sherd is abraded; the largest sherd (57mm x 40mm) has new breaks to at least one edge. The fabrics vary in colour (due to firing temperatures) from dark grey to mid brown and orange / red. These sherds were found near an earthwork monument of prehistoric date and could be significant in helping to date activity in the area.
