Title
Early-medieval tweezers (fragment)
Description
English: A fragment of a pair of copper-alloy tweezers of probable middle Early-medieval (Anglo-Saxon) date.

Only the lower portion of one of the arms survives. The horizontal bottom edge is bent inwards at approximately ninety degrees to the rest of the arm. The width tapers from 14.4mm at the bottom to 5.3mm at the point where it is broken. On the upper surface are two areas of punched ring-and-dot decoration. The area adjacent to the bottom edge consists of three marks in a triangular formation, with a fourth inside; the second area lies close to the broken edge and comprises four marks in a lozenge formation. The uppermost parts of the outer edges are also decorated with a series of closely-spaced, small punch marks, creating a 'toothed' border.

The fragment measures 24.4mm long and 0.7mm thick. The weight is 0.87g.
