Title
Early-medieval stirrup-strap mount
Description
English: Late Early-Medieval triangular stirrup-strap mount with two projections, one of which retains moulded decoration; the other has lost its surface. The face of the mount is engraved with short transverse lines to either side and between the two rivet holes; each of the three sets of short transverse grooves is flanked by long grooves, two for the central set (between the rivet holes) and one inner line for the border sets. The two rivet holes retain copper-alloy rivets. The apex is broken, which presumably has removed the upper rivet hole. The common right-angled flange on the reverse is much denuded due to corrosion.

There is a fairly close parallel illustrated in Williams (1997, 82; ref. 379) from Warwickshire. This was thought at the time to be an unclassified mount, but is now felt to be a devolved version of a Type 8 (David Williams pers. comm.).

This stirrup-strap mount was published in Geake 2003, 204.
