Title |
Early-medieval single-looped buckle (probably) |
||
Description |
English: A slightly bent and corroded single-looped cast copper-alloy buckle of probable early-medieval date, incomplete in as much as it is missing its pin. The buckle is D-shaped, with a narrowed pin bar and a broadly trapezoidal cross-section. The outer edge is bevelled externally, bevelling echoed internally. The artefact is seemingly plain but is quite corroded; there is a possible depression to act as a pin rest. It now has a variable mid-grey colour with some recent strikes; it has been bent upwards slightly in profile. The buckle can be compared with some illustrated in MacGregor and Bolick (1993, 204; e.g. ref. 34.53) and is probably best classified as Marzinzik's (2003, 306) Type I.5. |
