Title
Early-medieval buckle (drawing)
Description
English: Cast gilt copper alloy buckle; small elaborate buckle with integral frame and plate; the frame is D-shaped, though a large section is missing; a central groove follows the contours of the frame on its upper surface; the plate which is sub-triangular in shapes takes the form of a raised anthropomorphic head with a double-contoured hairline, triangular eyes and a down-turned mouth + moustache? A circular hole used to attach the pin (lost) pierces the hairline of the face centrally; the front surface of both the frame and plate are heavily gilded; the reverse is plain.
