Title
Early-medieval brooch: Refitting sacuer brooch fragments (reverse)
Description
English: A fragment of a cast copper alloy saucer brooch of early-medieval (Anglo-Saxon) date, dating from c. AD 450-550. The fragment (the larger of the two in the image, on the right hand side) has geometric patterns in a border around a central double-armed cross. There is traces of silvering. The reverse of the fragment retains part of the broken pin lug. Interestingly, this fragment re-fits with a fragment found at Detectival 2018 (which also matched to a third piece found in 2018) and donated to the Museum. The 2019 discovery is a different patina to the donated fragment but they re-fit exactly, as the image shows. The finder generously donated the 2019 fragment to the Oxfordshire Museums Service so it can be used in research alongside the 2018 example. All three fragments of the brooch were found within c. 10m of each other (grid refs from paper maps so not 100% accurate).

The 2018 fragments are missing images from their records - OXON-DFB312 and OXON-D04D8B
