Title
Early-medieval brooch: Great square headed brooch fragment
Description
English: A fragment of a copper alloy Anglo-Saxon brooch, probably a Great Square Headed Brooch of mid-6th century AD date. The fragment consists of what appears to be part of the curved bow and a very worn and degraded section immediately below the bow which may contain the remains of a catchplate. There is a dark surface substance behind the bow and on a small section of the front, which could be sooting. The fragment is very worn and degraded and no decoration is discernable.
