Early-medieval brooch: Button brooch
Description
English: An incomplete copper alloy circular 'button' brooch dating to the early medieval / Anglo-Saxon period, c. AD 450-600. The brooch has an everted rim and retains most of the gilding on the upper side. Within the centre of the brooch is a highly stylised anthropomorphic face mask. On the reverse of the brooch is the remains of the catchplate and pin hinge lug.
