Title
Early-medieval bridle fitting
Description
English: Incomplete bit/rein link from a bridle. One terminal survives complete; it is lozengiform externally, with three corner knops, and has an oval perforation 12 x 10 mm. At the fourth corner a D-section arm projects, which flares slightly towards a hollow-backed oval boss. Immediately beyond the boss is an incomplete oval ring (very old and worn breaks). It would have been attached to one end of the iron bit adjacent to the cheek piece, with the reins secured at the opposite end of the link. Surviving length 53.5 mm, probable original length c. 92 mm; maximum width (at terminal) 23 mm, maximum thickness (at boss) 8 mm. Compare
