Title |
Early-medieval : Mount |
||
Description |
English: A lead unidentified object of unknown date but possibly Anglo-Saxon. The object consists of an elongated possible mount, concave in profile which is visible on the reverse. The obverse has three ridges with concave basins in between. At one end on the obverse side, there is two protruding dots either side of the central ridge with curvilinear lines both underneath and on top. This might be part of some zoomorphic decoration forming the eyes of an animal but the lack of further decoration or form makes it hard to distinguish. The reverse has no evidence of decoration but the central concave recess has evidence of possibly an iron pin with some transferred iron corrosion on the lead surface. There appears to be breaks to the object on either end but the breaks themselves seem rather worn. The surface is mid brownish-grey in colour. Possibly 6th - 7th Century AD but not certain as no other parallels can be found. |
