Title
Early-medieval : Bead
Description
English: A complete polychrome glass bead of Early Anglo-Saxon date. The bead is of Brugmann's 'Dot34' type, circular in plan with a flat top and bottom and a central circular perforation. The body of the bead is a light brownish-white opaque glass, and it is decorated with blue glass trails in an irregular wavering pattern forming six triangles, each with a dot of red glass. The bead is 12mm tall, 16.8mm in diameter and weighs 4.3g.

Similar examples can be seen on the Portable Antiquities Scheme database as LIN-B83187 (another Dot34), and also LIN-D76CE0 and SOM-4B0603. Brugmann dates the Dot34 type to her Phase B, c. 550-c. 650 AD.
