Title
Early-Medieval : Ansate Brooch
Description
English: An incomplete copper-alloy ansate brooch of Early-Medieval date, c.AD 700 - 900. The brooch has a flat semi-circular head plate, from the reverse of which a single, integral projection extends. The front surface is decorated with a crude border of incised zig-zags.

At the centre of the front straight edge of the head plate is a semi-circular projection which is broken and worn. This likely represents the remains of an integral arched bow.

The metal has a mid-green patina and is worn. The brooch is 21.4mm long, 31.2mm wide, 8.3mm thick and weighs 10.3g.
