A fragment of an Early-Medieval (Anglo-Saxon) copper-alloy ansate brooch (c. 700-c. 1000).Weetch type II.iii.

One terminal and the bow survives, the remaining part of the brooch is missing.

The brooch has a flat sub-circular/discoidal terminal. The front of the terminal has incised decoration, a central ring-and-dot motif with an annulet to either side. The bow is ‘D’-shaped in cross-section, flat at the rear.

This brooch is corroded and has a brown patina. The break is old.

Length: 28.2mm; width of terminal: 10.4mm; thickness of terminal: 1.9mm; width of bow: 5.0mm; thickness of bow: 2.6mm. Weight: 2.32g.
