35 mm slide; color. Scientific Classification: Kingdom: Animalia; Phylum: Chordata; Class: Aves; Order: Strigiformes; Family: Strigidae; Genus: Bubo; Genus species: Bubo sp. Animal characteristics: Identification: The eagle owl is buff to yellow-orange in color. It has streaks of dark brown and/or white throughout, ear tufts of varying size, and a white throat patch; Habitat: Temperate and tropical forests, open country, semi deserts; Diet: Carnivore: rodents and other small mammals; Reproduction: Eagle owls will often steal nests from other large birds or will nest in debris platforms in trees or on cliffs. The female lays 1-3 eggs and does most of the incubating herself. Both parents help feed the chicks; Status: No special status; Interesting Facts: Other birds (larger and smaller) will often mob eagle owls if they fly through their territories. Like other owl species, eagle owls are unable to move their eyes, giving them the appearance of staring.
