Summary
[edit]DescriptionESTCube-2 infographic 2022.jpg |
English: The ESTCube-2 satellite will carry the second generation of Estonian and Finnish in-orbit experiments - a plasma brake for deorbiting and an Earth-observation camera for vegetation monitoring, in addition to the newcomer Captain Corrosion, which will study the corrosive behaviour of materials in low Earth orbit, or LEO, where they are exposed to atomic oxygen. The satellite trip into LEO on board Arianespace's Vega-C rocket is supported by the European Union in cooperation with the European Space Agency via the In-Orbit Demonstration and Validation (IOD/IOV) initiative. ESTCube-2 will test several capabilities of its 'nanospacecraft' platform, which will be important for future deep-space travel with the electric solar wind sail.
