Description
English: Post Medieval (18th Century) cast copper alloy pipe tamper. The handle is formed of the figure of Saint George standing upon a dragon, which he is slaying with a spear. The shaft of the tamper is below the dragons body. The shaft is triangular in form with a circular cross section. There is a collar at the base of the shaft before a flattened circular terminal. It is 60.03mm long, has a maximum width of 24.37mm, maximum thickness of 4.85mm. The shaft has a diameter of 3.66mm below the dragon which increases to 6.81mm at the terminal. It weighs 13.91 grams. The tamper is dull red-brown in colour and the surface is worn.
