Title
ESS-441B85 Bronze Age Flat Axe
Description
English: Bronze Age flat axehead. The axe has a thin butt, measuring 7.6mm wide and 1.60mm thick. The edges extend outwards via an even curve to form a broad cutting edge measuring 27.9mm wide and 0.82mm thick. Both surfaces are slightly dished, with a slight flange on the edges of the faces. In profile the axe is an elongated oval, with pointed ends, with a maximum thickness of 6.44 at the central point. There is no decoration on the axe. The axe is 49.67mm long and weighs 20.26 grams. It is probably an Aylesford type developed flat axe, dating 2000-1500BC. Similar examples can be seen in Schmidt & Burgess page 60 and plate 27.
