Das Gebiet zwischen dem Hospital St. Annen und der Fischerstadt war bis in die 1960er Jahre ein Mühlenviertel im Westen der Stadt. Die Zufahrtsstraße hieß "Reine Gasse" - im Volksmund aber Dreckgasse, was dem schlechten Zustand des Weges entsprach. Die dort nun funktionslos gewordene Bebauung (zwei Mühlen, Nebengebäude, angrenzende Lagerschuppen, Remisen und einstige Pferdeställe) um diese Reine Gasse wurde in den 1970er Jahren widerspruchslos geopfert, um dort moderne innenstadtnahe Wohnblocks errichten zu können.
