Description WASHINGTON — This graphic, released by the NTSB Dec. 13, 2016, compares Hurricane Joaquin’s location and forecast track delivered by the Bon Voyage System (BVS) main weather file and Inmarsat-C SafetyNET broadcast, and accessible to the crew of the El Faro Sept. 30, 2015, at about 11 p.m.(EDT). The green dotted line shows the El Faro’s track and the blue and red lines represent Joaquin’s location and best track data from BVS and Inmarsat-C SafetyNET, respectively. The depictions are overlaid on an infrared image from the GOES-13 satellite taken at about 11:15 p.m. Sept. 30, 2015. (NTSB graphic)
