Summary
[edit]DescriptionEISCAT Svalbard radar 2015.jpg |
English: One of two large EISCAT radars located outside Longyearbyen on Svalbard.
EISCAT or European Incoherent Scatter Scientific Association, was established in the 1970s to conduct research on the lower, middle and upper atmosphere and ionosphere using the incoherent scatter radar technique. Today there are three incoherent scatter radar systems in the Nordic countries. The station on Svalbard opened in the 1990s and is located at the Breinosa mountain, just downhill from the Kjell Henriksen Observatory, about 12 km from Longyearbyen. |
