Description E38 was built by Fairfield, Govan, Clyde and was launched on the 13th of June 1916 and was commissioned on 10 July 1917. The E class served with the Royal Navy throughout World War I as the backbone of the submarine fleet and were eventually replaced by the British L class submarine. All the E class submarines were withdrawn from service by 1922. E38 was sold in Newport on 6 September 1922
