In the spring of1916, however, permission was obtained to work until11 p.m. Saturdays, thus permitting all the men to worksix full shifts a week. At the date of writing (Aug. 22, 1916) there stillremained approximately 210 ft. of shaft to lie sunk andtwo stations to be cut. The following permanent equipment is to be installedwhen the shaft is completed: Two 500-hp. hammer aircompressors, direct-connected to 300-kw. motors (eachcompressor will have a capacity of 2,600 cu.ft. per min.) :one hoisting engine for men and materials, having a 10-ft.drum with a speed of 1,200 ft. per min. and driven by a280-hp. motor; one hoisting engine operating two 5-ton*kips at a maximum speed of 1,450 ft. per min. and drivenby a 700-hp. motor.
