Description

Two similar species, Dysgonia algira (The Passenger) and Dysgonia torrida (The Jigsaw), belongs to the family of moths Noctuidae, genus Dysgonia. They looks the same but are different species. D. algira only distinguishable from D. torrida by examination of dissected male's genitalia (an effective method of identification other insects species, such as beetles). Dysgonia algira (The Passenger) is found in Europe (but primarily in Southern Europe), North Africa and the Near East, has a wingspan of 40–46 mm and forms two to three generations per year. Dysgonia torrida (Jigsaw) is found from the tropical and subtropical areas of Africa to Spain, southern Italy, Greece, Syria, Israel, Iran and Uzbekistan, has a wingspan of 45-50mm and multiple generations per year.
