ill give a good idea how the processes of dyeingand finishing are conducted. In Yorkshire the machinery and mode of treatment differentirely in several important particulars from those in usein Lancashire, and therefore any special aptitude which theYorkshire dyers have acquired in the dyeing and finishingof cotton goods, and more particularly in that class knownas Italian cloths, is principally owing to the applicationof principles distinct from those in use in the Lancashiretrade, and to the use of machinery capable of producingdifferent results. The drawings (figs. 1 and 2) represent a treble crabbingmachine, by Messrs. Elkanah Hoyle and Sons, Limited,Halifax, which is not used in the Lancashire dyehouses, butis indispensable in the finishing of worsted and mixed goods,and which has some advantages in the finishing of cottongoods.
