Description
English: In late November 2015, NASA�s Terra satellite passed over southern Bolivia and northern Argentina as strong winds blew dust across the region. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard that satellite captured this true-color image on November 22.

A thin veil of fine white sand appears to arise from or near the Salar de Uyuni (upper left corner of the image) and blows southeastward across the dry Altiplano of Bolivia. The Salar de Uyuni is the world�s largest salt pan, covering about 3,100 square miles (8,000 sq. km.) and it is the major source of dust in South America.

Narrower plumes of dust appear to arise from small dry lakebeds to the southeast of the Salar de Uyuni. These dull gray plumes appear so thick near the source that they obscure the view of the land beneath, but become thinner as they stream towards the southeast.
