The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard NASA’s Aqua satellite acquired a true-color image of the storm on the afternoon of that day.

Summary

[edit]
Description
English: On November 21, 2017, a large dust storm spread from west to east across the Gobi Desert. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard NASA’s Aqua satellite acquired a true-color image of the storm on the afternoon of that day.

Compared to an image acquired by the MODIS on the Terra satellite in the morning, strong winds continued to raise copious amounts of dust from the desert and move the dust to the east. Gobi dust continued to rise about clouds in the northeast of the image.

The Gobi Desert stretches over parts of southern Mongolia (west) and northern China in the east, and is one of the most prolific-dust producing regions in the world. Both sand seas and impermanent lakes occur along the China-Mongolia border, adding to the desert dust. Dust storms are the most common natural hazard in this region.
