Summary
[edit]DescriptionDust over the Red Sea (MODIS 2019-06-08).jpg |
English: A blanket of dust blew across the southern Red Sea in early June 2019. The Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on board NASA’s Terra satellite acquired a true-color image of the event on June 6, 2019.
The Red Sea sits between the Earth’s largest sources of dust— the Arabian Peninsula and North Africa. Summer winds, predominately blowing from west to the east, frequently lift large volumes of Saharan dust and carry it across the Red Sea. The dust provides an important supply of nutrients to the Red Sea. Fine dust particles may also create respiratory hazards for humans and animals. |
