Description
English: Durga temple from the cluster of Dwadash or twelve temples at Ula Birnagar in Nadia district. One of the tallest ancient temples of West Bengal originally had 21 pinnacles which at present has been reduced to just one pinnacle. The Dwadash temple complex were initially built by Ishwar Chandra Mitra Mustafi sixth generation of founder member of the family. His maternal grandson Kedarnath Dutta (who became Vaishnava spiritual leader Bhaktibinod thakur) was born here. Later his son Lalitaprasad Dutta bought this land, renovated the temples and established a Gouriya Math here. There are 10 Shiva temple surrounding a Kali temple standing in front of the main premises of the Gouriya Math, while the tall white coloured Durga temple stands at a distance outside the main premise.
