Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Dunecht House, Aberdeen, Scotland, Estates Office Entrance door. The monograms show dexter: interlinked "C"'s for Viscount Cowdray (Pearson family) and sinister: "AC". The balance appears to be a reference to the arms of Cass, also perhaps indicating to the tenants of the estate, as they entered to negotiate and pay their rents, the just nature of their noble landlord (scales are an attribute of the classical goddess Justicia and are shown above innumerable court houses in the western world). Elsewhere on Dunecht House are sculpted arms of Pearson (Viscount Cowdray) on the wall of Estate Offices, Dunecht House, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Dexter: Per fesse indented gules and or, two suns in splendour in chief and a demi-gryphon couped, wings elevated and addorsed, in base all counterchanged (Pearson) impaling Per pale argent and azure, a balance suspended between two flaunches, each charged with a branch of palm slipped, all counterchanged (Cass). These are the arms of Weetman Dickinson Pearson, 1st Viscount Cowdray (1856-1927), who married Annie Cass, a daughter of Sir John Cass.
