Description
English: Pearson (Viscount Cowdray) arms, Dunecht Estate Office. Arms of Pearson (Viscount Cowdray) on the wall of Estate Offices, Dunecht House, Aberdeenshire, Scotland. Dexter: Per fesse indented gules and or, two suns in splendour in chief and a demi-gryphon couped, wings elevated and addorsed, in base all counterchanged (Pearson) impaling Per pale argent and azure, a balance suspended between two flaunches, each charged with a branch of palm slipped, all counterchanged (Cass). These are the arms of Weetman Dickinson Pearson, 1st Viscount Cowdray (1856-1927), who married Annie Cass, a daughter of Sir John Cass. The arms have Mexican connotations, since the family money largely arose from their Mexican oil interests (Sinister supporter is A Mexican peon). The motto 'Do it with thy might' is from Ecclesiastes 9:10. The Pearson family was from Hertfordshire, England.
