Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Dun Telve Broch This broch and Dun Trodden half a mile further up the glen are the best preserved brochs on the mainland. Sadly both have been plundered for building stone. Dating from the iron-age (450BC to AD400) Dun Telve was originally over 40 feet high and now has a maximum height of 33 feet. Built entirely without mortar it is double skinned with a thickness at the base of 13 feet and a gallery with a staircase climbing between the walls. The internal diameter of the broch was 32 feet. Their purpose is a matter of debate but circular towers of that height with no external windows and only one low doorway would have been useful defensive structures.
