Summary
[edit]DescriptionDun Laoghaire (Mallin) railway station, County Dublin (geograph 7024154).jpg |
English: Dun Laoghaire (Mallin) railway station, County Dublin Opened in 1837 as "Kingstown Harbour" by the Dublin & Kingstown Railway as the terminus of its line from Dublin Westland Row, now Pearse station. In 1861 it became just "Kingstown", then "Dun Laoghaire" in 1921. "Mallin" was added in 1966. The original line came into the bay platform on the left. At one time there was an overall roof here - the supporting walls still stand. View south towards Sandycove and Rosslare. The line was extended south in 1844, on the lines to the right of the image. The nearest platform on the right was originally used by the Kingstown & Dalkey Atmospheric Railway from 1844 to 1854, then converted for use by steam locomotives. For over 100 years, it was the only through platform going north or south, until a second northbound platform (far right) was added in 1957. |
