Description
English: Cadet students of the then‘Duke of York School’ (now Lenana School), parade for inspection in fully para-military attire and armory at the School’s main parade ground in 1962. In this photo we can see about 5 platoons of roughly 25 cadets who would form a company of about 125 cadets. Discipline and dedicated service was and still is of top most prioty and the Lenana School changed students into better members of of the society… hence the school’s nickname “Changez”.The school hall can been seen in the background and the school bell in the foreground. The same setting is still presentnto date. The school’s Cadet program, which ended late into 1982/early 1983 after the foilded “82 Kenyan coup, draws it’s tradition from the House of York which was a cadet branch of the English royal House of Plantagenet. Three of its members became kings of England in the late 15th century. The House of York descended in the male line from Edmund of Langley, the 1st Duke of York and the fourth surviving son of Edward III.| PHOTO COURTESY | Kenyan Facts |
