From this, Da Vinci derived the moment of force about an axis within a single plane. From the figure, one can distinguish what leads to the correct value of the moment of an oblique lever arm: the product of the weight and the speed with which the weight lowers rather than the product of the weight and the speed with which the extremity of the lever arm turns. |
