Title
Duck brooch top
Description
English: Copper alloy zoomorphic brooch, possibly in the form of a duck. The bird has a long pointed oval body in plan, and is ridged in cross-section with a hollow reverse. The tail is a flat disc. The head and neck are are obscure, since there are no visible features on the surface. The neck extends a short way upwards and is circular in cross-section. It then kinks downwards, leaving an angle of about 45 degrees between the head and neck. The kinked part of the head flattens out and terminated with another flat disc, smaller but similar in shape to the tail. It is possible that the bird has a squat neck with the highest point being the head, leaving the long flattened kinked section representing the beak. There is a large patch of iron corrosion around the pin lug underneath the rear end of the bird, and a catchplate underneath the head area.
