Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Vertical configured pylon on the 380 kV line between Mercator (Kruibeke) and Bruegel (Dilbeek) substations; Bornem (Belgium). This type of pylon is the most common in Belgium. The small traverse on top carries two thin cables: lightning rods bolted uninsulated directly onto the pylon. The conductors are hanging on the traverses by means of insulator chains. These consists of separate glass dishes. Their length depends on the voltage. For 380 kV more than 20 dishes are being used. The conductors consist of two separate wires. Because the power plants generate 3-phase alternating current, the number of conductors on a high-voltage pylon is always 3 or a multiple of 3.
