Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Drypool Lift Bridge's Rocker This is the southern rocking bearing for the Drypool lift bridge enabling it to rise up to almost a full vertical position to allow boats to pass under it on the River Hull. River traffic has reduced greatly in the last decade and so the bridge is not now lifted very often.

There are three such bridges on the River Hull which are progressively smaller the further upstream they are. The three are: Drypool, North and Sutton Road. Drypool Bridge was opened in the very early 60s and replaced a much smaller swing bridge which was a bottleneck.

When Drypool bridge was first commissioned, I believe twenty double decker buses were parked on it (~160 tonnes) and the bridge only 'sagged' by 1/8 of an inch!
