Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Drypool Bridge and Clarence Flour Mills Drypool Bridge was built in the late 50s/early 60s to replace a narrow two-laned swing bridge. Drypool Bridge is a four-laned lifting Bridge, but that too is now beginning to show its age. When it was first built, I believe it was tested by loading it with twenty double decker buses at 8 tonnes apiece (160 tonnes) and it only deflected by ~1/8" (~3mm)! In the 60s and 70s, the bridge was often lifted to allow river traffic to pass; this now seems to be a rare occurrence.
