Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Drypool Bridge Drypool Bridge was built in the late 50s/early 60s to cross the River Hull. This four-laned lifting bridge replaced a narrow two-laned swing bridge, which at one time, was a great bottleneck. This bridge is now showing its age with rusty patches on it. I believe it was initially tested, when first commissioned, by putting twenty double decker buses on it (~160 tonnes), and its measured downward deflection was only about 1/8" (~3mm)! The bridge was at one time very busy, but Myton Bridge, to the south of here, now carries the vast majority of the traffic over the River Hull. There are ten sets of bridges (two are doubles) that cross the River Hull in the Hull area, including one railway bridge, a former railway bridge which now only serves as a footbridge (Foster Street) and a redundant double lifting bridge at Scott Street. Three of the bridges are of this single lifting type (Drypool, North and Sutton Road Bridges) and they get progressively smaller the further upstream they are!
