Description |
English: Drum, military, royal regimental. Wood body, handpainted. Queen Victoria coat of arms, large cylindrical wood body. Two heads of hide lapped on to hoops, placed over the open ends of the shell and secured by counter loops. Tensioning rope attached to counter hoops with leather adjusters, metal eyelet on rear of shell for attachment to harness. There are metal-headed fasteners above the seam. The emblem is high centre front, gold scrolled ribbon below VR initials, with a jewelled regal crown. A beast sits upon the crown, with plumes either side. Lion and unicorn embrace the oval plaque. There are four regal emblems within oval plaque. An English rose is beneath lion's paw, a Scots thistle is opposite with unicorn. The unicorn has a chain over its back. The drum has two tampons (drum sticks), which are wood sticks with felt-covered rounded heads and rubber feet (possibly contemporary). |
